Import Some Contacts
Imports allow you to add Contacts in bulk via a standard comma separated value (CSV) file. Omnigage has templates to assist you in formatting your Contact data for import as well as providing facilities to map your data to the Omnigage target fields.
To import a list of Contacts:
- Click on the Contacts icon in the main navigation.
- Click on the IMPORT CONTACTS button or Import Contacts option.
- Click on the UPLOAD button to browse your local file directories to locate your CSV Contact file.
- You may optionally select a target List to associate to your imported Contacts via the Select a List drop-down option.
- Click the REVIEW IMPORT MAPPING button.
- The Mapping tab will display the names for each of the column headers detected in your Import file, as well as example data from each column. Use the drop-down fields to select the most appropriate target field in Omnigage to map your Contact file data to. When you have completed selecting the mapping fields, click the SCHEDULE IMPORT button.
- The system will Import all of the records that it has identified as valid. If there are any Import records with fields that have data values that do not match the expected values, those records will be displayed with an option to RESOLVE the incompatibility. Click the RESOLVE option to review the Contact import and correct any field data that is in error.
- On the RESOLVE screen for each record, the Import process will notify you of the detected error. For example, an invalid Phone Number value will display the error message "Invalid phone number specified". The Omnigage system uses the E.164 standard formatting for its telephone numbers.
- You may choose to RESOLVE or SKIP each erroneous Contact record. Once you have completed all of the Import record resolutions you will be returned to the Import Results view.
Helpful Import Tips
- Email Fields must only contain a single, valid email address. If there are multiple email addresses they must be separated into unique columns and assigned as Email 1, Email 2, Email 3, etc.
- Telephone Numbers use E.164 standard formatting. Only the Country Code prefix is necessary. Any preceding digits (ex. 011 for international dialing within the US) will result in errors or incorrect country code association for the phone number.
- Telephone Numbers do not currently support spaces, dashes, parenthesis, periods or any non-numeric characters.
- Telephone Numbers do support extensions, with the desired format being 15555555555x1234, where the extension is "1234".
- During the mapping step, any field in your Import file may be mapped to "Skipped" which will omit it and its value from the Import data set.
- If your are importing a data file that originated within Omnigage (as an Export) it may contain unique id fields. The values of these fields are unique to an organization and will result in an error if an Import file from another organization is imported. Please remove the unique id columns from your Import file if you are attempting to import Contacts from another Omnigage Account.
- When re-importing Contacts to an Omnigage Account, the unique id fields of the import file will be used to attempt to update existing Contacts in the Account. You must have Collaborator Write (or greater) permission to all the Contacts you are attempting to update.
